The name and the mark
Why we are called Five49
The name is a reference, not an invention: 549 is the number of the European standard our name refers to. This page says what the letters, the numbers and the four fields next to them mean — and what the mark is not.
549 is EN 301 549
EN 301 549 is the European standard for the accessibility of digital products and services. It is the harmonised standard cited in the Official Journal under the Web Accessibility Directive, and the standard the Commission commissioned under request M/587 for the European Accessibility Act — for the Act itself it is not yet cited, and so does not yet carry a presumption of conformity. For web content it refers to WCAG. Our reference is WCAG 2.2 Level AA; it is the yardstick we measure an online shop against.
Five · four · nine carries that number in the name. Whoever knows the standard knows at once what we do. Whoever does not gets a short name that reads the same in every language of our market — no umlaut, no hyphen, no word that belongs to someone else.

promises the name makes. It names the standard, not a result.
Four fields, one finding
A page is a grid of elements — images, fields, buttons, headings. The mark is four such elements: a circle, a square, two quarter circles. Three are in ink. One is in claret.
That one is the finding: the element that falls out of line. We look for it, name it and show where it sits in the page's HTML. That is the whole product, in one picture. No shield, no tick, no figure — a shield promises protection and a tick promises conformity, and neither is a promise an automated test can make.
Colours: circle in claret #8C2230, fields in ink #14161A, on paper #FFFFFF. Contrast of the circle against the paper: 8.80 : 1, checked with the same engine we run on customer sites. In dark mode the fields turn light and the circle takes the light claret — same order, no second logo.
The letters next to it
Five49 is the name. Nothing else stands next to the mark, not even the standard number: next to a wordmark, a standard would read like a test mark. This page explains where the number comes from. No slogan, no claim.
What the mark is not
It is not a seal. You will never see it on a customer’s website, because there it would read as a certificate of conformity — a promise we never give. Customers receive a dated report with every finding at its location in the page's HTML, not a badge.
It is never recoloured, never rotated, and the circle never moves. Four fields in this order are our mark; any other order is just a grid.
